Tranquil Small Private Bedroom with Private Bathroom Available (Summer '26 Sublet Available)

One private bedroom (affectionately called the Cortona Room) in a unique and tranquil living space available starting 06/01/26 to 08/01/27 year lease. It is also available for Sublet 06/01/26-08/31/26. Rent is $1,050 per month and this includes all... utilities such as heat, electricity, wifi, property and grounds keep care, etc. The room and apartment is located at the non-profit Nacul Center for Ecological Architecture—an old brick chapel erected in 1873 and was originally a methodist church called Wesley Chapel. The chapel is now completely non-denominational and is used as a partial residential space and professional office spaces as well. The upper-level of the chapel is separate from the private apartment and rented as offices to two massage/bodywork therapists, a non-profit land and property firm, hosts a meditation group for seniors on Sunday mornings, and locates the landlord Tullio Inglese's ecological architecture firm TIA Architects (1975). The upstairs office tenants are very respectful and never enter the private apartment, and are very neighborly as well. The apartment has its own private entrance, but you can also enter through the business door when it is unlocked during the day since it is close to the parking lot. However, we ask the apartment tenants not to use the business door at night when it is locked for safety. There are also no other people in the upper level at night or overnight, so the living space is entirely private and noise free day and night. Although, footsteps can be heard a little bit in the living room from above during the day.

The apartment is conveniently located on Main St. in Amherst at a walking distance from downtown Amherst, UMass, Amherst College, The Emily Dickinson House, and a bus stop just a few feet away and close to your private entrance. The apartment has a large and roomy living room with high ceilings, large windows, and hardwood floors throughout. There is also a small arched stage which is perfect for those who are artistically inclined. There is a full and equipped kitchen, two full bathrooms (one is private for the Cortona Room), and a washer and dryer. There is also access to the apartment's private garden/backyard—perfect for sitting outside and eating lunch in the warmer months. The bedroom comes furnished with a desk and chair, shoji screen to cover the large window, and (optional) dehumidifier. We can also offer a twin sized mattress but the tenant must provide the bed frame. Free and ample private parking is available behind the chapel.

We are looking for a responsible, professional or study focused, and respectful individual. You will have three roommates, currently there are two:
Two graduate students from UMass (male and female) in there mid twenties studying Anthropology and Labor Studies. They intend to stay a few years to finish their Master's and PhD's. They are very friendly, respectful, mindful, and studious. They do have a few gatherings on weekends once in a while, but they make sure that it is during a time and day that does not interfere with the roommates. While they do host social gatherings every now and then, they would not call this a party house. The household is also LGBTQ+ friendly and 420 friendly.
Tullio also prefers respectful tenants as his family with their children live next door. This is a great place for hardworking students who need peaceful place to study. The entire building is surrounded by trees, chirping birds, and a small walk trail near the parking lot.

If you decide not to renew for the 2027-2028 lease, we ask tenants to find a new tenant for their room to take over the lease.

Cortona Room approx. 8 x 12 ft: $950 rent + $200 utilities = $1,050 rent per month + private full bathroom included (by Zelle or check)
$950 security deposit + $1,050 1st month's rent required
Lease begins 06/01/25 and ends 08/01/27. Or can sublet on 06/01/26-08/31/26. Optional to renew full year lease
